POW: Equally Wet
Project Reflection
I enjoyed working on this independent research project, I thought it gave us a lot of freedom that is not always given to us in projects. I enjoyed getting the chance to pick anything we wanted to work on or research and getting the opportunity to work with a good group. However, I did not enjoy having to decide on what to do and put it together somewhat last minute we did not have a lot of time especially with the multiple other projects we have been trying to finish as well. Since time felt limited I decided to jump on board with a project that my peers wanted to do. I feel that if I were to change this project I would get more planning time, that way I could decide on something else I wanted to do that I, personally, was more interested in. I did enjoy the time spent on the project and working with those in my group, but could have been more excited and engaged if I found something I felt more connected to. In doing this project I learned about different designers and how fashion designers use geometry in their work and then how to put that knowledge to use in making our own design for a dress. I found a way to measure circumference of our dresses skirt as well as make a parabola that showed the line of our skirt. Doing these things showed me ways that this math is used in a real world situation.
Junior Year Reflection
First semester in this class I had said that my goal for second semester was to have the ability to get everything done I needed to without procrastination so that I would have time to rest which I feel I did well. I wasn't always able to get everything done in all my classes without procrastinating some, but in this class I believe I did a good job at staying on top of my work. I feel more confident in math abilities after this class because some things that I forgot how to do we reviewed which helped me and I learned some new things that helped me work well in my pre-calculus class. This class was well balanced with my other classes because I was able to complete work in this class fairly easily with enough time to work on other class's work as well. It was a good class to help me take my mind off of other work and make a switch between other classwork to math without making my stress levels rise. I feel that with this math 3 class and my pre-calculus class I will be well prepared for math 4 and calculus my senior year. I hope to once again have a fairly relaxing core math class, and then have a bit of a challenging math class in calculus.
POWs
I am proud of this POW because I worked well with my peers and we collaborated to find a solution we believed was an accurate answer to the problem. We were able to split up the work evenly and discuss with each other and put ideas together to get through the problem. I enjoyed this POW because I was allowed to work with my group and enjoyed finding patterns to solve the problems. Working in an efficient group with good communication made the POW more enjoyable.
I am proud of this POW because it was a difficult one for us to figure out the solution to it, but we persevered and finished it. This POW was also enjoyable because it was challenging but I was able to work with my peers to solve it. Working with peers makes the POW easier to accomplish, less stressful, and a more enjoyable problem.
Silverton Write-up
Reflection
This first semester of the year went well for me. I was able to stay on top of my work and keep my grades up as I had hoped. Some parts of the semester were a bit stressful when trying to balance work, school, other commitments, as well as giving myself some time to rest. I expect this same challenge second semester, but hope to continue to handle everything well. However, I believe something that did not go very well for me this semester was finding that time to relax a bit. Next semester I would rather work harder to get everything done early and have left over time to rest, than procrastinate. This semester I think that I have grown in my relationships. I feel that I have reached out to others more than I normally do. I have had a couple close friends my first two years here and now I feel I am creating friendships with others as well. As a math student I feel I have grown in persevering when I do not understand a problem. I have work hard to complete assignments, advocate and collaborate with my peers.
