Action Project

For my action project I worked to address a need at the orphanage in Mozambique that I interned at during my LINK internship as a junior. I kept in contact with the family that runs the orphanage and when I chose to focus my project on Sub-Saharan Africa I thought it would be a great opportunity to help them out. Heart for the Needy, the orphanage, is a relatively new NGO so I knew they would have projects I could help with. Laura, the co-founder, mentioned that they would like to start music lessons for the kids. She says "it's important for the kids to be exposed to music because it's a part of their culture and music is something that can bring us all together. Each of our kiddos has been through so much - suffering, abandonment, neglect, abuse - and music is a great escape and even a therapeutic tool we can use to help them heal." Once this need was expressed to me I decided to set up a benefit concert to raise money for this cause. Many talented musicians will play and we hope to raise enough money so that they can get the instruments they need to make these lessons a reality.
